The wonderful musician Jaco Pastorius, here on one of his Fender Jazz Basses. He had severe problems with mental health (bipolar disorder has been suggested) and the illegal drugs (self-medication?) probably didn’t help either. Despite being among the world’s absolute most talented bass players, working with greats like Pat Metheny, Weather Report and Joni Mitchell, he was considered unreliable and had a hard time holding down a gig. He was homeless for periods and tragically died at 35 following a violent altercation with a doorman at a bar.
His music lives on!
